Christopher Columbus: A Whole New World

This is a blog about the claymation Guy and I made. First I'll tell you about the best parts about making the video. Then I'll tell you about the hardest parts. Last I'll tell you about the main things that I learned.

One of the best parts about making the claymation was getting to hangout with my friend. We got to go to each others houses to finish the claymation. I also enjoyed watching the end product, I thought it was really good. It was cool to show all of my friends and family. Editing the movie to make it better was also fun, especially when we put something funny in. I liked making the props and people because every character had something funny about them. For example in the last scene the guy that was taking Christopher Columbus to jail had a comb over. Putting little funny things in was really fun. Like in "First Voyage" when the little guy in the background gets eaten, or in "Back in Spain" where the picture of the queen looks exactly like the clay queen. When I made the son's hat my partner couldn't stop laughing.

This next paragraph is about the hard things. One of the main hard things was keeping the clay to stay hard. When ever we made the people the clay got warm so they didn't stand up well. The clay was also very soft when it wasn't warm making it even harder to get the people to stand on their own. The next hard thing was getting the scenes done in time. We ended up taking the pictures at our houses and doing the computer work at school. We even had to stay after school a lot. It was also hard to get all of the pictures to be the same length, we had to shorten each one individually. Recording was also hard because the computer would cut some of the voice off. Sometimes the pictures would get all scrambled up and we would have to arrange them.

This paragraph is about the things I learned. First of all I Learned that you need to work during a workshop period. The next thing I learned was that you don't need to add to much detail to make it look good. I also learned that if your clay people are to warm that you can put them in the freezer for a little while to cool them down. I also learned how to use the pitch changer. It help with the parrot and the queen. I learned how to change the length of pictures. I learned how to get music easily onto the claymation, just go to YouTube press play then record on your project. I also learned how to put movies on google video. I learned what spaces and computers where best to work at. Lastly I learned that dancing in the bottom level of the two story during workshop time isn't a good thing to do.

I think that the claymation that Guy and I made was really good. I hope you learned something from this entry. That's all for now BYE!!!!!

I won't be writing any more entries on Shmickelhimer, SORRY.
But it will be made into an interactive fiction that you can play yourself!!!

#4 The Barn (Continued)

Shmickelhimer paced the trail. He looked around and saw the sign. He was angry and frustrated that he couldn't find the barn so he slashed the sign with his sword. There a sound of metal hitting metal, and the sign turned. The bushes fell into the ground reveling the barn. It was just starting to get dark, so he hurried to the barn. He entered the barn and sat down. He set his things down next to some hay, where he was going to sleep. He got up and closed the door. He found a lantern and turned it on. When he looked out the window the bushes had grown back. First he laid out his things and ate some berries he had collected around the bushes. Soon he was fast asleep.

He woke up with a blanket over him. It wasn't there the night before. He was wondering how it got there when he heard a voice, "Hi I'm Daisy, you looked cooled last night so i put the blanket over you. Whats your name?" said a girl rabbit of about the same age as Shmickelhimer.

"I'm Shmickelhimer, what are you doing here?" asked Shmickelhimer.

"I'm on a quest to find the majestic pool of wonders, what are you doing here?" she asked.

"Me to! My mother is really sick so I need some of that water to make her better. Why do you need to go there?" he asked her.

"I need it for myself, I suffer from a rare cancer and the water from that pool is the only cure." said Daisy.

"I'm sorry to here that............... hey maybe we could search together!" said Shmickelhimer to Daisy.

"That sounds great," said Daisy. "I think we will make great partners."

"We should start going now," suggested Shmickelhimer.

"There's just one thing though Shmickelhimer," said Daisy.

#3 The Barn

Shmickelhimer got back on the road. Leaving almost immediately after the kill. He went down a trail for about 45 minutes then he hit a dead end. He didn't think he was going the wrong way, but he must have, so he turned back. As he was walking back he noticed a sign that had a picture of a barn on it pointing to the dead end. The barn was the spot where he was planing to spend the next night. He was puzzled. He looked at the dead end, it was a trail that headed strait into a bush, how could that be the way to the barn? He tried to looked around the sides but the bush had no sides, it just kept going. Shmickelhimer took out his sword and chopped away at the bush. Going further and further into it. He felt like he had gone a mile in, but when he turned around he had only gone about two feet. He was amazed and angry at the same time. He knew that he had to have walked at least a mile into the bush, but somehow he didn't. Shmickelhimer slept out of the bush and he saw the gap in the bush disappear. He tried to climb over it, but the bush always fell from underneath him. He tried digging, but once he was about three inches under he hit something metal. Shmickelhimer pushed the dirt away to find a metal plate. On the metal plate it said, "To get past the bush, find the barn." Shmickelhimer was very confused, how could he find the barn when he can't get past the bush? Shmickelhimer looked and looked for some other way in, but he found none. He paced back and forth thinking how could he do this seemingly impossible task. He even tried to go around the bush, but it was a circle.

Shmickelhimer needs help, how do you think he can get to the barn? Post a comment a tell me. Read the next story and see if you were right. That's all for this blog entry. Adventure E.D. Washington Coast

In this entry I'll be talking about the trip the Adventure E.D. class did on the Washington coast. It started on October 12, 2008. The class arrived at the Adventure E.D. classroom at 6:00 a.m. on a Sunday. When everybody had arrived we headed for the bus. The bus left the middle school at 6:30 a.m. We went to the Keystone ferry. Once we got across it was about two hours until the ranger station. When we arrived at the ranger station we got our bear cans, which we stored our food in. After that it was time to go to the sight where the first group would be dropped off. I was in the first group along with Guy Sparkman, Isaac Rubenstein, Mitchell Hughes, Chase Collins, Sean Anderson, Korey Neilsin, Theo Witherspoon, Lillianna Stelling and Korena Moor. When we were going around a lake I through up, but I felt better afterwards. When we got to the beach we transferred our food into the bear cans. The other group got back on the bus and went to there destination. Every body in my group started hiking. The first stretch of beach was rocky sand. After about a half a mile we came to the first river that we had to cross. We kept walking and got to a spot call Hole In The Wall. It is a point with a giant hole going through it. The tide was up to high for us to go through it so we had to take the overland pass. Once we got over the overland pass we took a rest. We hiked for about another three miles going around points and rocky beaches. We took a couple more rests, the we finally got to the last point. As we looked around the point we could see our first camp. When we got there Guy and I set up our tent and then hung around the camp area. That night I had a chicken and rice mountain house meal. We made a fire and cooked muscles over it, then we went to sleep.

My life, ON A GRAPH! CHORES!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but this isn't another addition to Shmickelhimer, it is a story about when I got chores. You can see on my "life graph," I got my first chore at age 9. The chore was to wash the windows of the house every other day. I had a sign off sheet that I marked every time I did the chore. My mom would check the list every week and if I washed the windows all of the days I got three dollars. If I missed three or more I didn't get payed. My older sister got chores before me, and watching her do them made me want them. I looked fun to make money.(Later I realized it wasn't worth it. My sister even tried to warn me but I didn't listen.) I got them near the end of the summer. I woke up that morning and went down to my mom and asked for the cleaning products. I got right to work, copying the techniques my mom had shown me the night before. It was fun for the first weak, then it got boring. Next it got annoying because I wanted to do something else, but was forced to do my chores first.
I still to this day have chores, though they are different and the pay is better, it still sucks. I now have to do all of the dishes, and care for the chickens and rabbits. I get payed five dollars and can only miss four. I have to do them every day!

#2Old foe

Shmickelhimer awoke to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. He got some of the fire wood he had saved and started another fire. While the fire got bigger and hotter, he packed up his things. He got right to work on his sword. Pounding it and something it with a nice rock he found nearby. After he got it to a perfect shape he let it cool. While the sword was cooling he found some wild onions. He was glad to have found the delicious onions because they were filling and gave him good energy to get moving once his sword cooled.

He got off to a good start, setting off at about noon. He made his way into the forest. Slashing down brush that got in his way. He found an apple tree after about five miles. He sat under it and rested as he ate one of the most tasty red apple he had ever eaten. He spotted a sparkle in a bush near him. He went over and found a circle with spikes going around it. He looked more closely a realised he was looking at a wolf trap! He looked around and realised that there were more and a sign saying "Look out for wolf." Shmickelhimer turned around to be met by the face of a huge wolf. Shmickelhimer darted back in reaction to the swipe of the wolfs claw. He lashed out his new sword. Both were standing about fifteen feet away from each other just starring. Right be for the wolf made his move Shmickelhimer realised it was Gillogops, the main bully from Shmickelhimer's school. Shmickelhimer dodged to the side just in time to be missed by Gillogops large fangs. Shmickelhimer tried to get within striking distance of Gillogops, but Gillogops was just faster than Shmickelhimer. Shmickelhimer, after a couple of minutes of dodging attacks, figured out what he needed to do. He need to lure him into a wolf trap. Shmickelhimer ran around the area jumping over the bushes in which the wolf traps were. He just couldn't seem to get Gillogops to hit one. Shmickelhimer then caught the chain, which the wolf trap was attached to, with his foot and accidentally flung it into the air. The trap then hit Gillogops on the right front leg, tripping and causing him great pain. Shmickelhimer looked back and saw what he had done. He was amazed at his accident. He took the opportunity to turn around and jump onto the wolfs neck, piercing the blade through it. This of course instantly killed Gillogops. At first Shmickelhimer felt bad about what he had done, but the remembered all of the bad things Gillogops had done to him and his mom.

#1
Shmickelhimer
Once upon a time, there was a courageous rabbit. He lived with his ill mother in a small forest. One day the rabbit, whose name was Shmickelhimer, went to go get the water from the majestic pool of wonders. The water that came from this pool cured any illness, he needed this water for his dying mom. Shmickelhimer started his journey in late summer. He set off on the long quest with only a small pack and water bottle. He walked down the thistle covered walkway waving farewell to his mother, starting his quest.
The first night he set camp at an old war base. There were cement buildings half coming out of a hill, on the other side of which was an ocean. The hill was protecting the cement buildings from any water based attack. The rabbit was to afraid to search through the buildings, so he decided he would stay outside for the night.
The next morning Shmickelhimer searched for any weaponry that could aid him on his monstrous quest. He found only a sharp, and rusty, metal pole. The pole, which was about three feet long, could be fashioned into a very useful sword. To make it he needed to find a smooth surface, a pounding tool, and a fire. He figured he better get some firewood from the forest before it got too dark. Shmickelhimer went out into the forest to fetch the fire wood. He found a good spot of dry would after about five minutes of searching. Shmickelhimer also stumbled upon a nice patch of juicy blueberries on his way back, he was relieved to be eating such a delicious treat. Once back to wear he set up camp he ate some of the berries he had picked, then started a fire. It was dawn by the time Shmickelhimer started work on his sword. He fell asleep, about half way done with his sword, to the sound of the crackling fire.
